I am woman enough to admit that my family prefers Cascade Fresh yogurt to my homemade yogurt. I just haven’t figured out how to capture their natural fruity sweetness. And since they aren’t giving up their recipe, I appreciate that it is more economically priced than other “real ingredient’ yogurts. It is usually priced between .85 – .90 cents a container at local stores, but this week it is on sale at Raley’s for 4/$2.00; that is .50 cents a container!
I repurpose the yogurt containers along with salad containers to make mini-greenhouses. This allows me to get a jump start on our short growing season by starting my seeds indoors. If you would like to make your own mini-greenhouses, you can find the directions here.

Thanks for the mini greenhouse link! Awesome idea! ☺
We haven't tried Cascade Fresh, although I've seen it in the stores. Our girls also prefer commercial yogurt to homemade, and our yogurt of choice is locally made Tillamook. Winco often has it for 43 cents a container, and I stock up when it's at that price but otherwise skip it!
Thanks for the tip about the mini greenhouses!
I am about to start my indoor seeds, first time ever, and I am terrified. I have a feeling nothing will grow. I was promised by someone that has gardened for YEARS that if I invest in a few shop light and hang them above my seeds, they will sprout just the same as using a grow light. I usually just by the plant, and the quick growing seeds (beans, radishes, etc), but this year I want all heirloom seeds.
Thanks colorado Girl!
Laura, .43 is an awesome price for good yogurt!
Elsa, I don't use any lights. I just put my containers in a sunny window. I leave the lid on but not locked down air tight until the seeds sprout and they usually sprout in less time than the package says they will. After they sprout I take the lid off because they grow at a pretty fast rate. The only time I have had bad luck is when I used the grow pellets. that is why I use real nutrient rich soil in yogurt cups – plenty of nutrients to feed the plant and plenty of room for the roots to develop.
