Gallery of Favorites 9/9
April of The 21st Century Housewife and I would like to welcome you to our weekend blog hop: Gallery of Favorites!
The Gallery of Favorites is a place for you to feature favorite posts from your own blog. Although April and I both spend a lot of our time writing about food, we do have many other interests and we know our readers do as well. The Gallery of Favorites is a place for all bloggers – not just food bloggers – to share their ideas, interests and passions.
Thank you to everyone who participated last week. I was touched and inspired by many of the entries. April and I both wanted to highlight 50 before 50 by Happy in Dole Valley, though I think for different reasons.
Lisa’s youngest is 11 allowing her more time to pursue the things she has always dreamed of doing. I applaud Lisa’s 50 Before 50 list and encourage you to make your own! You don’t have to wait until you are in your 40′s to start making a list of things you would like to accomplish.
I started making lists of things I wanted to do in January of 2000. We had one year orders to Maryland after living in California for 9 years. After that year my husband had orders back to California, so I made a list of everything I wanted to see and do on the east coast in that year. The list included: See every major battle field from the Revolutionary and Civil War, walk around Walden Pond, see the Cherry blossoms in D.C., visit all of the major Dinosaur collections on the East Coast, Camp on Assateague Island, Camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall, Drive to Kansas for the 4th of July, ride on a boat on the C&O Canal, visit Affirmed, go to all three legs of the Triple Crown, visit Lincoln’s Boyhood home, Grant’s Farm, Monticello, and Mount Vernon, and the list went on and on. And even though it sounds like a lot and people laughed at my list, I accomplished almost everything I set out to do and many things that had never occured to me to try before. Not everything turned out like I planned, but my children’s world was enlarged that year and the memories created encouraged me to prioritize experiences over things.
The successful fulfillment of that year’s list has inspired me to create more lists. My family still thinks I am crazy, but they will be getting up with me tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. to go watch the Glow Show before the Great Reno Balloon Race. On Sunday, they will quickly change out of their Church clothes, so we can go watch Camel Races in Virginia City. And next week, they will stick ‘foamies” in their ears and accompany me to the Reno Air Races. And this winter there are cabins at Spooner Lake available for rent, but you can only reach them on skis or snowshoes…

Alea – Many thanks to you and April for featuring my 50 before 50 post! I’m honored to be selected this week and hope my post provides encouragement to many ladies to jot down their own lists and seize the opportunities that lay before them! I love how you made your family’s year in Maryland an adventure; thanks for the inspiration. Reminds me of a line from the movie “Up” — “Adventure is out there!”
Blessings to you and yours, ~Lisa
Thoughts on the week, and ending the week. I hope your travels are fulfilled, love your own list. Thanks for hosting.
Hi! I’ve shared my carrot cake recipe because it’s one of my favourites …are you OK with me submitting older blog posts? Thank you for your lovely comments you both make on my blog! I really appreciate them! This is a lovely event. Have a wonderful weekend!
You may submit older posts. It is nice to review old favorites. Especially when they are timely and I am harvesting carrots!
I wish I could submit more than one! I chose my quinoa breakfast because it’s healthy (and my toddler actually eats it) and it seems to have a lot of views and comments. Plus, I think everyone is always looking for some more breakfast ideas.
