After daily nagging encouragement on My 1/2 Dozen Daily to try Green Monster Smoothies, I finally had the incentive I needed: wilty spinach and soft grapes. I pulled out my blender and finally made a smoothie!
In the above smoothie I used:
1 cup of cranberry pomegranate juice
1 scoop of rice based vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup grapes
1 generous cup of frozen mixed berries (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry)
2 cups spinach (You can not taste it!)
2 T. flax seed meal
It made 3 cups, so I had enough to share. 🙂
I have tried smoothies in the past made solely of fruit and while they have tasted good, they have not provided me with that full feeling that I am looking for. The addition of protein powder (I will eventually switch to yogurt) and spinach provided a level of satiety that I have never felt before with a smoothie. Each time I have eaten a green monster smoothie (I have been doing this for several days now and they taste just as good with fresh fruit and spinach), I have gone for 4 hours without having the slightest twinge of hunger.
Have you tried smoothies? If so, what is your favorite combination? If not, why not? Do you know the main reason that I did not do more experimenting with smoothies? I was lazy! My blender was stored in an inconvenient location and I didn’t like getting it out. It is now placed in a prominent location on my kitchen counter!Yum
