Sometimes I love to mix up my recipes with something a little different that may not be your typical fall fare. Pears come in the height of the season at the end of summer right on through fall, making them an ideal fruit for many recipes.

Homemade Spiced Pear Butter

Ingredients

– 4-5 pears – 2 tsp. lemon juice – 2 T. Maple syrup – 1 T. brown sugar – 1 tsp. cinnamon – ½ tsp fresh ginger-slice – ¼ tsp. nutmeg – ⅛ tsp. salt

Peel and dice pears. Place pears, lemon juice, maple syrup, brown sugar, ginger slice, nutmeg, and salt in a medium-sized saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 30 minutes with the lid slightly ajar. Remove fresh ginger slice and use an immersion blender or mash by hand. Simmer an additional 10 minutes.
