Homemade Seasoned Taco Meat

- 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- ½ cup chopped tomatoes
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 11/2 teaspoons cumin powder
- 11/2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup of water
- 2 green onions, sliced
- pinch of cayenne or red pepper (optional)
- Add the olive oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- When the oil is hot, add the ground beef and cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until it is no longer pink.
- Add the tomatoes and onions, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until the onions have started to soften.
- Add all of the seasonings and the garlic, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until fragrant.
- Add the water, and bring to a simmer.
- Cover the pan, and simmer for approximately 5 minutes.
- Uncover and continue to cook until most of the liquid has evaporated which will take approximately 5 more minutes.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the green onions.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning to your liking.
