Recipe type: Dessert

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup softened salted butter
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons mint extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2¼ cup all purpose flour
  • green gel food coloring
  • black gel icing
  • chocolate chips
  • circle cookie cutter
  • parchment paper
Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 325° and line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.
  2. Using a hand mixer, beat your softened butter and sugar together for about three minutes.
  3. Quickly mix in your mint extract and egg.
  4. Now, mix in your flour. It will start to thicken and then look a little crumbly.
  5. Finish kneading the dough in your hands until it starts to stick together.
  6. Roll your dough out onto a floured piece of parchment paper.
  7. Press your circle cookie cutter onto your dough and place the circles onto your baking pan.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes, they will look light in color. You don't want them to get too hard or it will make them difficult to decorate.
  9. Let your cookies cool.
  10. Use the black gel icing to draw a spider web. Start by making 3 skinny squiggles like the picture below.
  11. Connect the squiggles as shown to complete the webs.
  12. Press a chocolate chip upside down onto the opposite side as the web. This is your spider's body.
  13. Draw legs on your spider and a line to the web to complete each cookie.
