Ingredients
1poundbag of dried split peas
1meaty ham bone
2stalks of celerysliced
2carrotsdiced
½cuponiondiced
3clovesof garlic minced
2tablespoonsparsley
2teaspoonsbasil
2teaspoonsmarjoram
½teaspoonpepper
5cupswater
½cupsherryoptional
Instructions
Add the dried peas, ham bone, celery, carrots, onion, garlic, spices, water, and sherry to the Instant Pot. Stir to combine the ingredients.
Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and make sure the valve is set to sealing. Push the manual button and ensure that "high pressure" has been selected. Set the time for 18 minutes.
After the pea soup has cooked at high pressure for 18 minutes, allow the steam to release naturally for 12 minutes. Use a pot holder to flip the valve to release the remaining steam quickly.
When all of the steam has been released, use a fork or an immersion blender to mash the ingredients and blend them together.
Serve the split pea soup with additional sherry or croutons if you wish.
Notes
If you want a smooth texture, but do not have an immersion blender, you can carefully ladle the soup into a blender and blend the soup in small batches until it is completely blended. The heat can change the fit of the lid on some blenders, so be sure to place a potholder over the top of the blender and then place pressure on the lid to keep the lid from coming off while being blended.
