My husband loves my Crock Pot Split Pea Soup, but a slow cooker recipe requires that I remember to start dinner rather early in the day…and I am a bit forgetful. So after promising him all week that I would use the ham bone in the freezer to make split pea soup, and forgetting each day to start the slow cooker, I decided to use my Instant Pot as a Pressure Cooker and quickly make Split Pea Soup.

Add the dried peas, ham bone, celery, carrots, onion, garlic, spices, water, and sherry to the Instant Pot. Stir to combine the ingredients.

Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and make sure the valve is set to sealing. Push the manual button and ensure that “high pressure” has been selected. Set the time for 18 minutes.

After the pea soup has cooked at high pressure for 18 minutes, allow the steam to release naturally for 12 minutes. Use a pot holder to flip the valve to release the remaining steam quickly.
