100 Days of Frugal Summer Fun for Kids

Most of you know that my youngest child is 7, but what you might not realize is that my oldest kids are in college. Having older kids gives me a different perspective. I know that while the days may seem very long; the years fly by! It makes me determined to enjoy this summer to the fullest with my youngest child, as well as carve out some quality time with my oldest kids while they are on summer break.

Many parents focus on saving for big family vacations during the summer, however, I can tell you that in the long run visiting a theme park is not going to be nearly as important or as memorable as all the little moments. My oldest kids speak much more fondly of all the times they spent playing in the mud than they do of any of their visits to amusement parks. (I let them hold a pretty epic mud day every Wednesday throughout the summer!) Don’t get me wrong, I think amusement parks are fun, but it is possible to create magic in your own backyard with just a little investment of time. And in the long run, the time you spent with your children will be for more valuable than how much you spent on them!

100 Days of Frugal Summer Fun for Kids

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
