10 Must-Have Items for Newborns- Whether you are a mom-to-be or wanting to buy gifts for one, here are 10 essential items for newborns and new moms.

Whether you are a brand now mom wondering about essentials beyond diapers and bottles or you are looking to gather some great must-have items for a new baby, I have a list of 10 Must-Have Items for Newborns that I think are essential for new babies (and new moms)!

1. Diaper Cream– A good diaper cream is a must-have from day one. I prefer homemade so that I know every ingredient is safe for little bums but I am also a big fan of Burt’s Bees  Diaper Ointment, also. It works really well and contains 100% natural ingredients. I include it in every new baby basket that I gift.

blanket4. Nail Clippers– Incredibly, babies come out of the womb already needing a manicure. It seems weekly thereafter they will need a trim to keep them from scratching their own delicate skin, so a pair of clippers in baby size is necessary.

5. Nasal Aspirator– Babies do not love the nasal aspirator but it is definitely a must-have in baby gear. A miserable sick baby needs all the relief they can get, and if they are congested this tool will be your best friend.

6.  Humidifier– This one goes hand in hand with #6 for clogged up little babies. It is better to have one and not need it than to need one and have to run around to half a dozen stores late at night trying to get one.

humidifier7.  Socks– I don’t know what it is about socks but you know how they are- you can never find a matching pair. They are constantly being devoured by the couch, the dryer, and lost in the Bermuda Triangle of your house somehow. Guess what? Teeny tiny baby socks are even worse and those little bitty scraps of cuteness are easier to lose. You are going to need them to keep those sweet little feet warm so you will really want to stock up on baby socks. My favorite is plain white.

8.  Boppy Pillow–  These simple looking little pillows are momma’s best friend for nursing, baby lounging, and more. They have slipcovers that remove easily for quick clean up.

boppy9. Baby Detergent– When you have a bundle with sensitive brand new skin you need to protect it and avoid the harsh chemicals found in most store bought detergents.  If you don’t make your own, look for one that is specifically for babies. They are much gentler.

10. Bibs– From newborn spit up to drooling and all the way to baby food days,  they will need lots and lots of bibs. These snap bandanna style are just adorable, aren’t they?

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
