The Five Benefits of Crafting with Your Kids

You might think of crafting with your kids as simple play time, but the truth is it can be so much more. The next time you create something fun with your child, keep in mind these five benefits of crafting with your kids. In just a few minutes a day, you can not only create something fun but learn some valuable lessons too. Take a look!

The Five Benefits of Crafting with Your Kids

1. Patience is practiced.
Some crafts take longer than others and will teach your child to practice patience. Whether you are waiting for paint and glue to dry, or just need to hang tight while you figure the directions out, craft time is the perfect time to teach your child that patience is indeed a virtue! The reward comes when the craft is done and looks fantastic, all because they didn’t rush it.

2. Creativity is built.
No matter how big or small your project is, your child will no doubt get the chance to be creative and let their creative juices flow. This helps build their imagination and expands the world around them. Allowing them to get creative also helps them express feelings and emotions in a positive way.

3. Problem solving takes place.
Not all crafts go as planned, so problem solving is often a part of crafting. Children can utilize and build their problem solving skills when they create art. Whether it be trying to figure out how to mix various colors or get two objects to stick together, children will often have to problem solve to achieve the finish product.

4. Mistakes are allowed to happen.
Mistakes happen when art is created. When you craft with your child, you allow for these mistakes and learn from them. Creating art together provides a safe place for your child to take risks, experiment, and see what happens! If a mistake is made, it is ok! The project can be scrapped or taken on a whole new direction.

5. Memories are made.
Spending time with your child is an essential step to bonding and building a relationship. Building a relationship over art is a wonderful way to spend quality time with your children. Take pictures of your adventures, display their artwork, and always encourage your child to create. When you do, you are making memories that will last forever.

Crafting with your child is a fun and easy way to build skills and memories. Give these tips a try and see how easy it can be to turn craft time into learning time!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
