How to Make a Straw Necklace

If you are looking for a fun spring craft, you can’t get any sweeter than this simple spring straw necklace. This straw necklace can be made using just a few supplies from your local craft store, and the end result is a fun and festive necklace that you or the kiddos will love wearing. A fun craft for the whole family, this simple straw necklace needs to be on your to do list this weekend. Take a look at how you can make your own.

Supplies needed:
Decorative paper straws
String or yarn

items needed to make straw necklaces

We found both of these items at our local craft store. Michael’s craft stores (national chain) sells packages of these straws in their $1 bins. You can choose from a wide range of colors and for just $1 each, you can afford to try several shades.

Directions:
1. Begin by cutting your straws into small bits. We kept ours around ½ an inch in length but you can make yours as long or as short as you wish. You can even do a variety of sizes if you want as that would work just fine too.

2. Try to cut bits from two or more different colored straws. This will add some variation to your necklaces.

3. Take a length of string or yarn (you can measure around your neck first to decide how long you will need it to be) and lay it flat in front of you.

4. Begin stringing on the straw bits one at a time alternating colors if you wish and creating pattern of your choice.

5. Once your strand is full, simply tie the ends together in a knot or bow.

Your necklace is now ready to be enjoyed. While you are at it, why not craft a matching bracelet too? This is a fun and frugal craft the whole family will love, and it is a great way to make something fun out of those $1 craft store supplies. Give it a try!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
