How to cook rice - directions for 5 different methods
How do you save money on food when you are already on a rice an beans budget? Create your rice dishes with plain rice from bulk bins and cook dried beans.

Rice is so frugal if you don’t buy packaged rice. The packaged rice may seem convenient, but it usually isn’t that much faster and you pay a much higher price for that convenience. You can buy a large bag of plain rice for a fraction of the cost of a boxed rice. You can save even more by purchasing your rice from the bulk bins at your local grocery store. My kids favorite rice is only $0.83 a pound when I purchase it from the bulk bins. Once you’ve cooked your rice, you can season it for pennies by adding spices from your cupboard.

Whatever method you use, don’t forget that cooked rice can be frozen. I like to cook large batches of rice and then freeze it in usable portions. You can also combine rice with lentils or beans and use it in place of meat in many recipes.
