How to Create a Menu Plan - Tips for creating a menu plan

Nothing quite inspires frugality than having to mail off a big fat check to the government. Fortunately for my family, I have some delicious items tucked away in the freezer like frozen artichokes, so they won’t feel deprived despite the fact that I have declared this week a “pantry week”. Was anybody else surprised by how much their taxes went up this year?

I have a printable weekly menu plan and shopping list that you can download to make organizing your meal plan and grocery shopping a little easier.

Monday – Asian Vegetable and Rice Frittata and a Strawberry Spinach Salad.

Tuesday – Meatless Spaghetti using Easy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce and a garden salad.

Wednesday – Use leftover pasta noodles to make Chili Pasta Bake. Serve with Roasted Cauliflower and Brussels Sprouts.

Thursday – use leftover spaghetti sauce in sauce for Artichoke Lasagna and a garden salad.

Friday – I will make gluten-free pizza dough and my easy pizza sauce, and let everyone make their own pizza. Serve with a salad bar.

Saturday – YOYO (You’re on your own – mama’s taking the night off!) Buffet Dinner.

Sunday – Sonoma Chicken and Pasta and a garden salad.

If you need help getting started making a menu plan, you can read how I create menu plans, which includes mention of various methods I have used in the past. Another tool that is available to help is ZipList. I created a video, showing how I use ZipList to save recipes, make meal plans, and create shopping lists.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
