Crock-Pot Beef and Broccoli on a plate in front of a slow cooker

This slow cooker beef and broccoli reminds me of one of my favorite choices at Chinese restaurants.  It’s loaded with beef and tender-crisp broccoli in a savory-sweet sauce. Served over noodles or rice and topped with sesame seeds, this is an excellent homemade version that’s as easy as (if not easier than) stopping to pick up dinner on your way home.

It cooks while you’re at work, low and slow, resulting in tender beef. The broccoli is added just at the end of the cook time, ensuring it stays crisp and green. While the broccoli cooks, you have time to toss some egg noodles into boiling water or steam some rice. Then just put your feet up and enjoy!

Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli Variations

You can serve Beef and Broccoli over steamed white rice or egg noodles for equally delicious results.

If you like spicy foods, red pepper flakes go great with this dish.

The recipe calls for a long cook time over low heat for the tenderest beef. If necessary, you can cook beef and broccoli on the high heat setting for just 3-4 hours, but it may result in tougher meat.

Flank steak or stew beef: Skirt steak or top round can also work if sliced thin and cooked “low and slow.”

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
