Last month I took a walk around the backyard after a severe thunderstorm to survey the damage. A Russian sage plant lost a fairly large branch. I decided to try to save it. Even though I took several horticulture classes in high school (it was the only way to avoid dissecting a frog) I did everything wrong. Instead of cutting the end and removing the lower buds, I just plopped it in a jar of water. One of my friends says that I am the queen of dumb luck and she must be right, because despite my neglect roots have appeared! I am now transferring it to a pot, where I will let the roots grow for another month or two, then I will transfer it back to the flower bed.
