5 Ways To Save On A Beach Vacation - tips for saving money on your vacation at the beach including ways to save on accommodations, food, and entertainment.

Summer is just around the corner and that means many families are in the process of planning for their fun beach vacations.  Going to the beach with the family can be a ton of fun but it can also be very expensive.  Here are 5 Ways To Save Money On A Beach Vacation that are sure to put more room in your budget and still enjoy all the best your destination has to offer this summer.

5 Ways To Save On A Beach Vacation - tips for saving money on your summer vacation at the beach

5 Ways to Save Money on a Beach Vacation

RENT A CONDO INSTEAD OF HOTEL:  Not only does this option provide more physical room and comfort than a hotel it also is typically beach side giving you a gorgeous view and little to no commute to get to the sand and water.  Check with reputable vacation rental companies in your destination area, or give your travel agent a call to locate a great place for you.  Avoid online ads on sites like Craigslist or local newspapers that are not verifiable by people you know in the area.

DINE IN INSTEAD OF EATING OUT:  It’s always fun to check out local eateries and special events but you can also save a significant amount of money by planning ahead by bringing your own groceries or shopping when you arrive and feeding your family for at least 2 of the 3 meals each day.  Breakfast and lunch can be inexpensive and easy to prepare in the condo and save you literally hundreds of dollars you would have spent for on the go breakfasts and lunches.

TRAVEL WITH ANOTHER FAMILY:  This works out great if you have an extended family or close friends you can split condo rental expenses with. Many condos will board 8-10 people easily with multiple bedrooms and sofas throughout.  Make sure if you do this you are traveling with someone you know you can easily get along with in a somewhat confined space for several days.

BRING YOUR OWN BEACH GEAR:  Beaches always seem to have tons of shops along side where you can buy things like snorkle gear, bathing suits, sunscreen and the like.  Plan ahead and shop at your local discount retailers or even online ahead of time and save money by bringing your own snorkles, sand castle making gear and sunscreen.  Many beach side shops have an enormous mark up on products that will cost you two to three times what you can buy it for in other locations.

CHECK GROUPON FOR LOCAL EVENT DEALS:  This is a great way to save on things like para sailing, boat tours, deep sea fishing and other fun entertainment and events that can quickly add up if not careful.  Always check your destination zip code on sites like Groupon, Amazon Local, LivingSocial, and Deal Chicken  for great deals on events and food.

A fun filled beach vacation doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg this year.  You can easily treat your family to a vacation they won’t soon forget if you use these 5 ways to save on a beach vacation while planning.  Don’t forget to double check the cost of driving versus flying as well as look into special packages through travel agents that might surprise you and cost less than booking the trip yourself.

Love your tip on checking Groupon and other local deal sites! We always have them setup to check our home area – but it’s easy to search our “summer destination” area too!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
