If you browse a recent home decor magazine, chances are you will find some money saving coupons for your paint purchase. Check out home decor magazines as well as the websites of your favorite paint brands to see what coupon savings you can dig up.

Check out salvage stores such as the Habitat for Humanity ReStore to see what paint might be available. Many times, people donate their leftover paint to these salvage stores and you get to enjoy the savings on perfectly good paint! You r selection won’t be as large, but you are sure to find some basic hues.

3. Tint what you have.
Do you have leftover white paint but need yellow? You can take the paint you have and have the hardware store tint it. Most of the time, they will do this for free or just a small charge. This is a great way to use what you have and get the color you want!

4. Don’t forget the dollar store.
While they don’t sell paint, the dollar stores do sell brushes, trays, rollers, and painting tape. Check out your dollar store for the painting supplies you may need to help you get the job done for less.

5. Put a call out on social media.
See if any of your friends have leftover paint they won’t be needing. If so, offer to pick it up. You may be able to get it for free, or for a fraction of what they paid for it. It never hurts to ask and see what others might have on hand.

6. Find a college kid to paint for you.
Have the paint but can’t do the work yourself? Don’t spend big bucks on labor. See if you can find a local college student who wants to make some extra money. Chances are they will be happy to do the work for a fraction of the cost of a pro.

7. Properly store your paint and brushes.
Once you buy the paint and supplies, save money by taking care of them. Wrap your brushes in plastic wrap when not in use so they stay damp and flexible. Cover your paint cans well and hammer them securely so you don’t have to deal with them drying out. When you follow these tips, your paint as well as your supplies will last longer.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
