5 Ways to Save on Birthday Parties for Kids

Throwing a party on a budget is easier than you think. With a little planning you can throw a great party without breaking the bank. Be the best mom around this year without going over budget with these ideas and ways to save on birthday parties for kids.

5 Ways to Save on Birthday Parties

Pick a theme that will save you money. Often when we throw birthday parties we pick a theme that the birthday person loves. When picking the theme for a birthday party look for one that you already  have plenty of items for. Those toys, dress up clothes, and decorations can become party decor and you save money on decorating.

Choose a low cost location. Either your backyard or the local park look for a location that will not take up the majority of your birthday party budget. If you are paying for a more costly location look for one with a great deal that provides other parts of the party you need. If you are having a big party you may end up with a better deal if they cover, clean up, or catering included can make for a great deal. If you pick a venue ask for pricing for less peak times like weekdays to save a good bit of money. For things like invites you could create your own or buy a printable design off Etsy for a huge savings.

Go with solids. Plain solids can be chosen to fit any theme at a lower cost than themed cups, plates, and other basics like balloons can be purchased for penny on the dollar in a solid color and leftovers can be saved for a later date. You never know when the color will work for something else.

Make things yourself to make your theme take shape. Make your own themed snacks and homemade decorations that will be perfect for your child’s bedroom after the party. A little creativity goes a long way. Pintrest is a great place to find many DIY ideas for a great party. Just type in your theme and the keywords “Party Ideas” into the search and you will find many ideas to choose from and may even be inspired for a few of your own.

Feed a crowd for less. Whether you plan for snacks and treats or to feed everyone lunch you can save money on food for your child’s birthday party. For the most savings offer a party that is for after a big meal and just do snacks and cake. If you wish to serve a meal, save money and go with something fun like a backyard barbecue to feed more people for less.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
