Cheap Summer Activities for Kids- Looking for ways to keep the kids busy over summer break? Here are a few activities they can do without breaking the bank.

When the kids are home for the summer, it can be overwhelming to think about keeping them busy and out of trouble. Thankfully, there are plenty of things your kids can do without breaking the bank. Here are a few Cheap Summer Activities for Kids to enjoy while they’re home on break.

Cheap Summer Activities for Kids

Check Your Local Park- If you’re looking for some cheap activities for your kids this summer, try your local parks. City parks will often have different summer events including lunch for kids and even craft days. Do some research and see what your city parks are offering this summer.

Visit the Splash Pad- The splash pad is a great activity for the summer! On a hot day, take a trip to your local splash pad. Many parks have them for free, while a few might charge a small fee to come in. Regardless, your kids will appreciate a way to cool off and you’ll love the price!

Plant a Garden- Planting a garden is another great activity for the summer. This project might cost some money at the start, but once you’ve invested in seeds and gardening tools, you’ll enjoy an entire summer of taking care of the garden without any extra cost. At the end of summer, you and your kids will enjoy the fruits of your labor with fresh vegetables!

Make Lemonade- Looking for a way to get your kids out of the house? Give them the ingredients to make fresh lemonade. Your kids will enjoy experimenting with the ingredients to make the perfect glass of lemonade. After they’re done, your kids can get crafty and build a lemonade stand, complete with posters to advertise their prices. This cheap activity will keep them happy.

Go Canoeing- Want to experience nature while spending time with your family? Rent a canoe for a day and take a trip down a river or stream. If you see something interesting on shore, you can dock the canoe and go exploring. Don’t forget to pack a lunch so you can have a picnic in a beautiful location of your choice.

Go to a Baseball Game- If your city has a local baseball team, find tickets for a summer game. You and your kids will enjoy eating ballpark dogs while cheering on your favorite baseball team. Some baseball parks even have special events and firework shows before and after their games.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
