Here’s a great tutorial on how to make homemade pom poms using bandanas.
Homemade Pom Poms Tutorial- Create your own pom poms in your favorite team's colors with this easy tutorial. All you need is 10 minutes and $2 in supplies.

We have been in full football mode in my house for weeks, ever since the first whisper of preseason started. My little girl and I thought it would be fun to make some homemade pom poms for when our favorite team was playing. Can you guess who it is?  You don’t HAVE to make your pom poms orange and blue, but why wouldn’t you want to? You can choose your favorite team colors, even if that means everyone in the house has a different colored pair!

Luckily, following this Homemade Pom Poms Tutorial is super easy. They only cost $2 a pair so you can make enough for a Superbowl Party, high school football game, or any Sunday night game!

Materials:

  • 2 bandanas
  • twine
  • scissors

Homemade Pom Poms Tutorial- supplies needed

Directions:

1. Fold bandana in half longways and cut straight down the fold.

2. Cut vertical strips about 3″ wide. You should end up with about 16 pieces. Repeat with the second colored bandana. Divide the strips in half.

3. Make a cross with two alternating fabric strips.Homemade Pom Poms Tutorial- set fabric in cross 4. For the next layer, make an x with two alternating colors. Continuing alternating between a cross and an x until you have used up half your strips.Homemade Pom Pom Tutorial- layer strips of fabric5. Slip and 18″ piece of twine underneath your flat pom pom, pull the ends and tie it as tightly as you can across the center.Make a handle by tying a loop in the end, then cut off excess string.Homemade Pom Poms Tutorial- create handle6. Next, you want to spend about 5 minutes fluffing, and twisting your strips until your homemade pom pom is more full and even. By cutting the strips you will eventually have frayed edges on your pom pom, I don’t mind this at all as I think it adds to the homemade look!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
