Gallery of Favorites
April of The 21st Century Housewife and I would like to welcome you to our weekend blog hop: Gallery of Favorites!

This week we are featuring a post written by a 10 year old about keeping chickens and tips for holding them.

Earth Muffin Mom blogs at Diary of a Small Town Earth Muffin and allowed her daughter to write about her chickens. Her daughter was a grand champion at their county fair’s poultry show last year. Her love of chickens shines through this delightful post, filled with adorable photos! Earth Muffin Mom explained that although they live in the city, they were able to obtain a special use variance since her kids are in 4-H and will show the chickens. In the mean time, they get to enjoy their “feathered friends” and the fresh eggs they produce.

The Gallery of Favorites is a place for you to feature your favorite posts from your own blog. Although April and I both spend a lot of our time writing about food, we do have many other interests and we know our readers do as well. The Gallery of Favorites is a place for all bloggers – not just food bloggers – to share their ideas, interests and passions.

The Gallery of Favorites will remain open for entries until Monday afternoon. We hope that you will take the time to visit some of the other entries in our Gallery of Favorites. It is a great way to discover new writers, or a new side to some of your favorite bloggers.

    Thank you for hosting.

I enjoyed your feature this week. Happy chickens actually make eggs that are higher in nutrients, and therefore better for us. Good to know that happy equals healthy, isn’t it? I’m pleased to note that, in my part of the world, battery eggs seem to be diminishing in popularity. The sooner they become an unfortunate part of our food history, the better. No animal should have to live like that.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
