how to make a quick and easy Greek salad dressing recipe.

This Greek salad dressing recipe is one of my favorite salad dressings. And like most homemade salad dressing recipes it is quick and easy to make it at home.

Greek salad dressing could actually be called Greek Vinaigrette as it is made with white wine vinegar, olive oil, garlic, and oregano. I like to add basil to my dressing since basil is slightly sweet and it offsets the sharpness of the vinegar.

Greek dressing tastes similar to Italian dressing, but it has a bolder flavor and has a bit more tanginess to it. Italian dressing often includes some added sugar, but Greek salad dressing does not include any added sugar. I am not doing the flavor justice with my description: the combination of garlic, oregano, onion, and basil make it a delicious dressing or marinade!

My Greek salad dressing recipe is naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free. It can be used by those on a low-carb diet and is keto-friendly. But just because it is healthy, doesn’t mean it isn’t delicious. I often serve this dressing at dinner parties because I know everyone will love it and it will be safe for all my guests no matter what diet they follow.

Making salad dressing at home is not only easy, but it costs much less than purchasing store-bought dressing. You also have complete control of the ingredients when you make your own salad dressing. To buy authentic Greek salad dressing at my local grocery store costs over $5 a bottle.

How to Make Greek Salad Dressing

While some people use lemon juice, minced garlic, and Dijon mustard, I prefer to stick to pantry staples: vinegar, olive oil, and ground spices. I can achieve an authentic flavor while saving a lot of time. If I have to squeeze a lemon and mince garlic, I am less likely to follow through on my plans to make homemade dressing when tired. Using ground mustard ensures I have it on hand when I want to make dressing because, with two sons, condiments quickly disappear.

You can make salad dressing in a traditional cruet, but I often use a mason jar with this pour spout lid.

  1. To make Greek salad dressing you use a 3:2 ratio of red or white wine vinegar to olive oil. So to make a small batch, you would use 3 tablespoons of red or white wine vinegar and 2 tablespoons of olive oil as your base.
  2. Then you add oregano, garlic powder, and salt to taste. You can also include basil, onion powder, ground mustard, and pepper.

You can play with the spices to come up with your own variation of Greek dressing or use my recipe below.

How to Store Greek Dressing:

Note: If the oil thickens while in the refrigerator, allow it to sit on the counter for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
