The Ultimate New Mom’s Cookbook simplifies the process of feeding you and baby as well as multiple ages of kids in different stages of eating. The cookbook is filled with wholesome, satisfying recipes for every stage from the first day of your pregnancy to those tricky toddler years.

It includes recipes for stocking your freezer for those first days home from the hospital, nutritious meals mom should eat while nursing and methods for introducing your child to new flavors and food textures. However, unlike traditional books on feeding a baby, it doesn’t stop there. This cookbook shows you how to feed your baby while also feeding the rest of your family.

Many of the purees pull double duty serving as both baby food for your little one and the base for a delicious meal or snack for the rest of the family. The Very Berry Puree Recipe below is a prime example. It can be used as both homemade baby food as well as used in the Very Berry and Coconut Popsicles Recipe below.

“In the heat of summer, nothing beats a good popsicle. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or looking to give your kid a delicious treat without all the refined sugar, it is popsicle time,” says Aurora Satler.  She explains that she can make these with her kids and enjoy them “knowing they are not only nutritious but incredibly tasty and refreshing. Best yet is they are so easy to make.”

Very Berry and Coconut Popsicle Recipe

From Makes 8-10 popsicles (depending on the size of your popsicle mold)

Note: You can substitute your favorite fruit puree for the very berry puree. Other combinations that are wickedly delicious are mango-coconut, orange-coconut, strawberry-coconut, pineapple-coconut, blackberry- coconut and raspberry-coconut.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (13.5 oz.) can of unsweetened full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup very berry puree (see above)

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl with a spout, combine coconut milk, vanilla, and honey and whisk until combined. Pour into popsicle molds to fill by 2 inches. Freeze for 10 minutes to create a base.
  2. After 10 minutes, you can alternate with berry puree and coconut, using a wooden skewer to swirl and create a pattern. If you don’t feel like the fuss of a swirl, you can blend the puree and coconut together from the beginning.
  3. Once full, add the popsicles sticks to your mold and freeze the popsicles until set (from 4 hours to overnight).
  4. To eat popsicles, run the molds for several seconds under hot water to allow you to easily remove the popsicles. Savor each delicious bite!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
