If you want to start using coupons, these tips on how to start couponing will help you start saving faster!

How to Start Couponing

With the economy on a rough side, lots of people are turning to couponing. Couponing is a fantastic way to save your family money. You can use the money that you save from couponing in so many ways. Maybe a nice family vacation? Maybe using the savings to cover another bill? The most often asked question is “How can I start couponing?” Partially the answer is just to pick up a Sunday paper and get coupons. But that is only the beginning. Here are some tips on How to Start Couponing and saving your family money.

How to Start Couponing

Figure out your stores. Figure out what stores that you have in your area that accept coupons. There are so many stores that accept coupons and can help you stretch your budget, but do you know which ones near you? Do your research by writing a list of stores in your area and looking online to see if they accept coupons.

Learn your stores’ coupon policies. After you figure out what stores you will be shopping at with coupons, you will want to know their coupon policy. Each store carries a different coupon policy. It is often recommended to print out the coupon policy for all of the stores that you will be shopping at and keeping them with you when you are shopping. Store employees sometimes are not notified when a policy change is made, and having the policy in your hand can often be useful.

Purchase your local newspaper. There are not always coupons available for the item that you need right at the moment. Each Sunday you will want to pick up newspapers when there are coupons expected. When you have the correct coupons on hand (or order them) you are able to pick up the items that are on sale at the correct time and maximize your savings.

Find coupon match ups for your stores. Matchups are where you will find lists of store sales with a list of coupons you can use on those items to save even more. When you match up the coupons and the sale items, you are able to save more and provide more items for your family. Often you will find match ups for your store for the entire week. You will also find unadvertised deals or items that were not included in the sale but are a great buy in the matchup lists. Another way to find sale items near you is with this app.

Learn where to get coupons. Getting the newspapers is a great way to get coupons, but there are many other sources. You can print coupons as well to get even more savings. Printable coupons will print from your home computer and you can take them to the store and use them just like the coupons that come from your newspaper.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
