How do you keep your home clean if you don't like to clean? It's easy when you follow these tips on How to Keep Your Home Clean in 30 Minutes a Day.

Do you hate cleaning? Not a lot of people enjoy taking time out of their day to clean their home! But a lot of people can’t stand to live in a dirty home, either! So how do you keep a clean home if you don’t like to clean? By cleaning quickly! Rather than spending a lot of time every day (or a huge amount of time on the weekend) just clean a little every day! Here’s How to Keep Your Home Clean in 30 Minutes a Day!

How to Keep Your Home Clean in 30 Minutes a Day

While cleaning your home daily for 30 minutes will keep it clean, it’s no substitute for a good deep clean! You’ll still want to do your spring cleaning, and will want to do other special cleaning tasks (like cleaning your oven’s vent hood, washing your windows, cleaning the inside of your dishwasher, etc.) as necessary. You’ll also want to pick things up and put them where they belong when they get out of place during the day. And you can save time by creating cleaning habits like wiping down the shower after every use and cleaning the kitchen counters after cooking.

1. Set a Timer

If you want to keep your home clean in 30 minutes a day, then you need to move fast! Setting a timer creates the pressure of a countdown (and reminds you you’ll be able to stop soon enough), which will keep you cleaning fast!

2. Work Top to Bottom

Whatever room you’re cleaning, start from the top of the room (cabinet/bookcase tops, etc.) and move to the floor. This way you’re not brushing dust down onto an area you’ve already cleaned.

3. Do One Task at a Time

To keep your home clean in 30 minutes a day you have to work efficiently. So don’t try to clean one whole room, then go do the same tasks in another room, then in another room, and so on. That’ll just slow you down. Instead, dust all the rooms, then wipe down/scrub all the relevant surfaces (mirrors, countertops, smudged stainless steel, toilets, sinks, wood), then shake out any rugs, vacuum all the floors, and finish by emptying all the trash cans.

4. Dust Quickly

When dusting, a feather duster will work just fine in most cases, and a rag can work in all other instances. Do a quick surface dusting of each room in your home. That means dusting around things, not picking up and dusting under every book or item of decor.

5. Vacuum Fast

You only have 30 minutes, so keep this part fast! Walking briskly, vacuum around everything, and under anything with an open bottom that your vacuum can easily get under. Use your vacuum’s hose attachment to clean near the baseboards in especially dirty areas (usually next to exterior doors).

6. Clean the Bathroom Fast

If you were taking your time, you likely could spend 15-30 minutes cleaning your bathrooms alone. But if you want to keep your home clean in 30 minutes a day, you’ll have to hustle! So pour toilet cleaner in the bowl, and let it sit while you wipe down the sink, counters, and mirrors. Wipe down the toilet exterior and seat with disinfecting wipes or spray them with bathroom cleaner and use paper towels. Then finish with quickly scrubbing the toilet bowl. If necessary, give the bathtub/shower a quick wipe down.

Depending on the size of your home, this may all feel pretty aerobic in the end. But your home will be clean and you won’t have spent hours of your time!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
