5 Ways to Help New Moms- Do you have a friend or family member that is a new mom? Here are 5 helpful ways you can lend a hand with their new bundle!

Got a friend or family member who is a new mom? You may want to reach out and offer help but either you just don’t know what to do or mom insists she is fine and doesn’t need anything. Sometimes this is true, but so often we as wives and moms just don’t like to impose on anyone else. Here are 5 Ways to Help New Moms that they will really appreciate!

5 Ways to Help New Moms

  1. Bring dinner to them. Freezer meals, pizza delivery, or even gift cards to a favorite restaurant are helpful. As a brand new mom you are often exhausted, sore, or just in the rapture of staring at that tiny perfect face all day. Dinner is the last thing on your mind so getting help with meals at least the first week or two is a major blessing!  Get your Sunday school class together, neighbors, or other family members and create a schedule to cover meals for the first couple weeks. Be sure to check for family allergies as well as preferences.
  2. Gift them a cleaning service. After checking with mom, dad, or another family member that this is something they feel comfortable with, pick up a gift certificate for a maid service that can be used at anytime.  A little help with extra cleaning can be a very welcome and thoughtful gift.
  3. Offer to take other children off their hands. After the initial time of bonding with the little one, offer to come get the older siblings.  Take them to the park, a movie, for ice cream, or bring them to your house for a fun craft.
  4. Offer to run errands. Call or text and ask if there are any errands you can run for her. A bank deposit, to pick up or drop of prescriptions, dvd rentals, return library books, grab staples at the grocery store, drop off or pick up older siblings at school or daycare, walk the dog, etc.
  5. Quickly drop and run. Drop off a basket of thoughtful items for mom or baby without expecting a long drawn out visit which can be exhausting for both of them.  Leave it on the porch with a quick note, ring the doorbell, and leave. Or just hand it over and smile, letting them know you don’t want to intrude but were thinking of them.

Some gift ideas for mom and baby include: Magazines or books to read, a relaxing essential oil, a new coffee mug, bubble bath, a new dvd to watch, nursing pads, a gift card for online shopping like Amazon ( 2 day delivery!), a new comfy pair of pajamas (nursing ones are great!), handmade items with baby’s birth info, extra receiving blankets, homemade lotions, a pretty picture frame, or yummy indulgent snacks.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
