Children's Dish Towel Apron Tutorial - Try this super simple and adorable tutorial to turn a dish towel into an apron for your little one's kitchen fun!

This little miss is not yet 4, but she LOVES to cook with momma, I have had to purchase her some kitchen stuff in her size because she insists on being part of everything in the kitchen. I needed a cute apron for her and I ran across this linen hand towel at a home goods store for about $4.00 and immediately saw it as a sweet girly apron. Even if this is your very first sewing project ever, this will be a piece of cake. All you need to do is make 2 cuts and minimal sewing.

Supplies needed:

  • A hand towel- approximately 12″ x 18″
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • A ruler
  • Sewing machine (but you can hand sew as well if you prefer)

Directions:

This is the towel I started with, luckily it already had a ruffle across the bottom. If you find one that doesn’t and you want to add a frilly touch, you can purchase a length of ruffle at the fabric store and sew across the bottom.

How to make a tea towel apron for kids

To make an apron shape instead of just leaving as a rectangle  I measured down each side 4″ and in from the edge 2″

Fold and pin the cut edges over 1/4″, sew from edge to edge, reversing at the start and end to make a secure seam.

Sew your ribbon across the middle.

Sew neck ties 1/2″ down and 1″ in from edge. I sewed across and back about 4 times to make sure it was secure

This is soooo cute and easy! Thank you for this idea and the clear directions! I am planning to make one for a 3-year old aspiring baker.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
