Homemade Windsock for Kids - Create a pretty, bright, and fun windsock with the kids to make your yard or porch festive. Easy craft project for kids.

Create a pretty and fun splash of color for your yard or porch with a bright homemade windsock! This easy project is super fun for the kids, first to choose fabrics and then putting it together. Make it for your own space or make one to give away; they make a great handmade gift for grandma, neighbors, or friends. I found 4″ embroidery hoops at Hobby Lobby for only $.99 each and spent about $3.00 on a large piece of vinyl coated fabric (the kind they make outdoor table cloths with), and I have a long length left to make something else with.

Homemade Windsock

Supplies Needed:

  • 2 -4″ embroidery looms
  • 9 x 14 1/2″ vinyl fabric
  • Assorted ribbons
  • Hot glue gun/sticks

Directions:

Cut ribbons to your desired length – 12″-15″ is good. I let the kids have total access to my ribbon jar, and they chose colors to match our fabric pretty well! Apply hot glue to the edge and press one end of ribbons firmly into place.

Run and glue a coordinating ribbon over the edge of the vertical ribbons to finish off the edge of.

Remove the outer ring of embroidery hoop and set aside (save it for another project).

Wrap the inner ring in fabric, securing with hot glue 1″ from the top, on the opposite side from the vertical ribbons. Fold fabric over and glue to wooden ring.

Create a cylinder with fabric and seal the seam with a generous bead of hot glue.

Make a hanger for your windsock by gluing a sturdy ribbon inside the top ring on either side.

Hang your windsock in a backyard tree or on the porch and enjoy!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
