10 Tantalizing Blackberry Recipes including blackberry smoothie recipes, blackberry BBQ sauce, blackberry desserts, and tips on how to freeze blackberries.

If you are lucky enough to have a blackberry bush growing somewhere in your yard, you know that not only do they yield a lot if you have a bunch of them, but they taste amazing. Even if you don’t have a blackberry bush, now is the season for them, and you will find them at stores for amazing discounts better than any other time of the year. In any case, you might find yourself with an over-abundance of blackberries and not know what to do with them all. Here are some tips on how to freeze blackberries, as well as 10 tantalizing blackberry recipes to try out.

How to Freeze Blackberries

Blackberries, like other berries, are ideal for freezing because they tend to freeze quickly, and they are great in most dishes you would use them in fresh after being frozen. While it is true all berries tend to get mushy upon thawing, they also are great for everything from smoothies to sauces and even pies. To freeze blackberries, simply place them in a single layer on a cookie sheet in your freezer. You will want to put wax or parchment paper down to keep them from sticking. Freeze like this for an hour or more and then transfer them to a container.

The reason you want to do it this way is because if you just throw them all in a bag, you will end up with one giant chunk of frozen berries, not individual ones. Make sure to also label when you froze them. Berries hold their freshness for several months, but they will start to lose some after 2 months or so for certain dishes like pies.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
