This beanie weenie tater tot casserole recipe is a kid favorite!

If you like Beanie Weenies, you are going to love my Beanie Weenie Tater Tot Casserole recipe!

This kid-friendly beanie weenie tater tot casserole is easy to make!

My youngest son says this is the best casserole I have ever created. I do not agree with him on this, but I can attest to the fact that this tater tot casserole recipe is a hit with kids of all ages!

I created this recipe when I found myself with leftover baked beans and barbecued hotdogs after a weekend party. I decided that instead of just making Beanie Weenies, I would up my game and turn it into a casserole by layering tater tots and cheese on top. I was surprised by how well it was received by the whole family. My husband likes this casserole so much, that he has made a habit of making extra hot dogs when he barbecues so I will have leftovers to use in this casserole.

You do not need to use leftover hot dogs to make this casserole, but don’t tell my husband.

A note on cutting hot dogs:

Don’t slice the hot dogs into round “coins” as this can create a choking hazard. I cut the hot dogs in half length-wise, then cut each long piece into half length-wise. This creates 4 long strips. Then dice the strips into small bite-size pieces. This is not only safer, but it also more evenly distributes the meat throughout the casserole.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
