Candied nuts are a favorite treat at the holidays. I particularly like that although they have a touch of sweet, the protein and oil in the nuts means I can enjoy some without experiencing a sugar crash afterward.

How to Make Candied Pecans on the Stovetop

Making candied nuts in the oven can take an hour or two, but you can make candied pecans on the stovetop in less than 20 minutes using our directions.

You start by making your glaze in a large frying pan using brown sugar, butter, water, and your favorite spices. We like to add cinnamon to our candied pecans recipe below, but you can experiment with the spices you use.

Once you have your glaze, you add in the pecans and stir until they are thoroughly coated. You continue cooking the pecans over a medium-low heat while tossing for 15 minutes.

After your pecans are done cooking, spread them on a sheet of parchment paper to cool.

6. Once the candied pecans have complete cooled transfer them to a container with a lid.

How to Store Candied Pecans

Candied pecans can be stored in a pantry, refrigerator, or freezer. However, before you put the pecans in a container you must ensure they are completely cooled. If they are not completely cooled the steam can release moisture into the container creating an environment that can make the candied nuts more prone to rancidity.

Store cooled pecans in an airtight container in the pantry for 1 week, in the refrigerator for a month, or in the freezer for 2 months.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
