As you build this Nutcracker Charcuterie Board with cheese, meats, and crackers, it transforms into the most recognizable symbol from the Christmas ballet, bringing the family together around the appetizers.

nutcracker shaped Charcuterie Board

Get ready to kick off Christmas with the most charming Christmas charcuterie board ever: a full-on Nutcracker made out of snacks! Every cube of cheese, slice of salami, and little cracker plays its part in this edible ballet, turning your ordinary spread into something straight out of a holiday fairy tale. Our step-by-step directions make it surprisingly simple:

  • Cheese cubes and slices become the Nutcracker’s cheerful face and epaulettes.
  • A handful of black olives stacked up make the perfect tall hat.
  • Rolled salami or prosciutto plus breadsticks form the bright red (or classic blue) jacket.
  • Pretzel sticks and crackers add that satisfying crunch.

Just looking at the finished composition brings a smile to your face and adds a magical touch to your party. This design is perfect for a festive table during the winter season – Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s, or a Nutcracker-themed party after attending the ballet.

Assembling a handmade charcuterie board is easier than you think. It doesn’t require any special culinary skills  – you just have to make a few simple cuts, the rest just involves laying the ingredients down in the right order – making it simple to prepare at home. Don’t worry about making perfect cuts as the design is very forgiving.

Charcuterie Ingredients:

The cheeses and meats can be found at the deli counter at your local grocery store. If you can’t find an ingredient, make a substitution. The nutcracker composition remains flexible, allowing you to adapt it to your preferences easily. For a lighter and healthier option, add more vegetables and fruits. If you’re planning to surprise the kids, include berries, marshmallows, or brightly colored sweets. The important thing when making substitutions is to maintain the recognizable image of the Nutcracker, and let your imagination take over from there.

The finished plate is varied and filling. Every guest will be able to choose the perfect combination of foods to suit their taste, and the presentation itself will attract attention and become the centerpiece of the feast. You use any leftover ingredients to replenish the board as it is eaten down or place them in small bowls on your appetizer table. I find the latter easier as replenishing the board take too much time away from guests.

Make-Ahead Tip:

You can make the Charcuterie Board ahead of time. Just leave off the pretzels and crackers until right before you serve it, so they don’t get soggy.
