If you have downloaded my Prep-Ahead Freezer Meals Cookbook, you have probably realized that it isn’t like other freezer meal cookbooks. Instead of just providing directions for cooking the recipes in a slow cooker, I also provide directions for cooking the meals in a pressure cooker, Instant Pot, the oven, and on the stove top. Below I am sharing details of the tools I use to prep my freezer meals, as well as the appliances I use to cook my freezer recipes.
Tools Used for Prep-Ahead Freezer Meals
Do not feel you must use the same equipment that I use! I provide this information only because so many people have asked me what I use in my kitchen.
Tools Used for Making Prep Ahead Freezer Meals
I freeze my meals in gallon-size freezer bags. You can save quite a bit by purchasing freezer bags in bulk.
I use Bag Holders to keep the bags upright while filling them.
If you don’t have Bag Holders, I recommend using Ziploc Stand & Fill Freezer Bags.
Tools Used for Cooking Prep Ahead Freezer Meals
Just like in my book Prep-Ahead Meals from Scratch, you can choose the cooking method for the freezer recipes that work with the appliances that you already have available to you, but if you want to know what I use when cooking these recipes I have provided the details below.
Slow Cooker – Cooking times vary depending on the size and shape of your slow cooker. I like to use the 6-Quart Programmable Crock-Pot. It cooks faster than my 4-quart slow cooker, but I like that it goes to warm automatically once the timer goes off, so it gives me some wiggle room if I am running late.
Pressure Cooker – Be sure to follow your model’s directions for sealing the lid and releasing the steam. I use this Cuisinart 6-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker and find it easy to use.
Instant Pot – I have provided directions for using the manual method since the button options vary from model to model on the Instant Pot. I have used 3 different Instant Pots and each has had different cooking options. I skip them all and just use the manual mode which operates as a pressure cooker. I find it more frustrating to use than my pressure cooker, but it is nice to have a multi-function appliance if you have limited kitchen space.
13 x 9 Casserole Dish and Foil – I use a 3-quart glass or ceramic baking dish. I prefer to use one that has a baking dish with a lid, so I can pop the lid on if there are any leftovers and put it in the refrigerator for later.
Dutch Oven or Lidded Pot – I prefer to use an enamel coated cast iron Dutch oven because they provide even heat, they retain heat well, and they can be used on the stovetop or in the oven.
