5 Uses for Lilacs

5 Uses for Lilacs
In just a few weeks, lilacs will be blooming all over the place. In soft purples, pinks, and white, lilacs are high;y fragrant flowers that many of use wait all year to enjoy. There are many wonderful uses for lilacs besides just looking at them, and we have listed those 5 uses below. Take a look and discover new ways you can enjoy these beautiful flowers!

5 Uses for Lilacs

1. Press them.
Place a bloom of lilac between two pieces of wax paper. Then, place the blooms and paper between the pages of a heavy book. After several days, the flowers will be dried and pressed. If not, add a few more days on and some more pressure such as an additional book. They can then be used for scrapbooking, card making, or other décor and crafts.

2. Eat them.
Lilacs aren’t just nice to look at, they can be eaten as well. Wash them wall and be sure you are only using lilacs that have not been treated with chemicals. Then, sprinkle them with sugar and use them as decoration on cakes and pies. You can even add them to salads, yogurt, or rice for extra flavor. Tasty!

3. Make your own scented products.
You can add pressed lilacs to your soaps,  lotions or bath products for extra scent. You can also toss them directly into your bath for scented water. They are so subtle and soothing, your nose is sure to enjoy them. Lilacs are used in many perfumes you already buy and use, this is just a more natural way of enjoying it.

4. Enjoy the medicinal uses.
Many people think lilac calms the stomach and can even help with parasites. Chew on some clean lilac blooms and leaves and see if they take your tummy aches away. It is worth a try!

5. Decorate with them.
Lilac blooms look great arranged in vases, dried and hung, or even sprinkled on tables for extra color. You can decorate cakes with them, make garlands with them, or even use the cuttings in each room of your home for color and scent.
