One of the most popular ways to grow vegetables is to build a raised bed garden. These 7 Raised Garden Bed allow you to make the most of a small space.

7 Raised Garden Bed Ideas Anyone Can Build- These 7 different raised bed gardens make the most of a small space and are much easier on your back and knees!

Building raised bed gardens can give you an easier space to work in, but can also help get rid of things like weeds and even some common garden pests like rabbits and other small creatures.  They are also great for those with a limited budget since they give you the ability to use fun upcycled items to create the ideal garden for your budget and space.

7 Raised Garden Bed Ideas Anyone Can Build

Make Tiered Garden Beds- You can easily purchase a tiered raised garden bed kit or build you own.  Busy At Home has shared some tips on how to make these work well. The idea behind a tiered garden is to make use of a small amount of space.  There are multiple versions, but most allow you to place smaller individual boxes or beds in a stair step manner.  This allows them to drain easily without causing harm to the plants beneath each layer and also takes up far less space than one large bed would on the ground.

Be cautious with this type of bed and make sure you have the right plants on each layer for the best drainage and sunlight.  Get to know your plant types to create the best overall flow that will make a great raised bed gardens idea come to life on a patio, small walkway, or in limited yard space.

Build Wooden Raised Garden Beds- The most popular raised bed gardens ideas are those with wooden sides that you purchase or build yourself.  These are typically built low to the ground with a plastic or garden mesh bottom that keeps weeds out of the planting area. Here is a simple DIY Raised Garden Bed that allows you to add chicken wire to the sides to keep out rabbits.  A Cultivated Nest shares some great tips for building and keeping a wooden raised bed garden in good shape.

Build Pallet Raised Garden Beds- Old wooden pallets have been a popular choice in raised bed gardens for years.  They are often free or very inexpensive and they are easy to manipulate to create rows for growing vegetables.  Something 2 Offer shows us some great ways to utilize pallets for a raised bed garden.

You can also use pallets to create gardens that are leaned against walls or on blocks to elevate them and utilize them from a different angle.  Using garden mesh or plastic underneath your pallet keeps weeds from growing through and protects the ground beneath them.  They are one of our favorite cheap and easy ways to build raised bed gardens since they are practically free and don’t require much carpentry skill.

Create a Container Garden- This design from 3 Little Greenwoods shows how you can measure off sections of your raised bed gardens to create a container garden style.  You can use containers or plant directly into the soil.  Container gardens are ideal for creating a raised garden to keep your plants off the ground as well as to utilize a small space wisely. Here are tips for growing vegetables in a container garden.

Container gardens can be any number of pots, totes, pans, even old shoes.  Elevating them to shelves, windowsills, patio railings, or porch railings gives you the chance to have an easy to maintain garden that is at your fingertips.

Make Concrete or Cinder Block Garden Beds- This is another popular raised bed gardens idea.  Orange Blossoms and Sunshine shares a simple way to build a concrete or cinder block garden.  This does require a bit more man power and strength, but it can be very affordable and a great sturdy raised bed choice that will last for years to come.  Unlike wooden beds, cinder blocks will last for many years without any treatments or sealant needed.  That makes it a great affordable choice in the long term.  They are also easy to rearrange and move if desired since they are simply stacked together rather than nailed or screwed into place.  Easier is almost always a better choice when trying to save money and effort.

Connect Raised Bed Gardens with Arbors- A Cultivated Nest shared a really good idea for connecting two raised bed gardens with a simple arbor.  This is a different way to grow plants like beans or similar items that have vines that can easily be trained to grow over an arbor.  It really adds to a small space and gives you even more room to plant items you really want to grow in your garden.  Arbors can easily work with a number of types of raised bed gardens you might choose.

Elevated Garden Beds- Addicted 2 Decorating shows us the classic elevated garden beds that most think of when they think of raised bed gardens.  A simple box frame over sturdy legs gives you a nice elevated garden that allows you to plant nearly anything without bending or stooping.  One great benefit of these beds is that you can so easily adapt to your individual height and make it easy to fit your body and needs.

Raised Garden Bed Kits – If you want a raised garden bed, but don’t want to build it from scratch, you can check out these Raised Garden Bed Kits that simplify the process of creating raised beds.

My yard is full of heavy clay soil so if it weren’t for raised bed gardens there is no way I would try to have a vegetable garden. They are so easy to keep up with weeding.
