Or Sometimes It Pays To Be Lazy…

Last fall we were caught off guard by an early snow storm. We had not yet completed our fall yard clean up when the storm hit and even though the snow melted in a couple of days, we never found our way back out to finish. One benefit was that the last of the leaves found their way to the bases of the bushes, trees, and flowers, which added an extra layer of protection against our harsh winters. Another benefit did not reveal itself until last month when I finally got around to removing the dead foliage from my day lilies. As I removed the dead leaves and stems, I realized that the lily stems had hardened into perfect lightweight stakes for starting seedlings indoors. I now have morning glories climbing up the old lily stems while waiting for the danger of frost to pass.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
