Aloe Vera – We all know aloe is great for your skin, but did you know it is easy to grow too? Aloe is a succulent which means it’s nearly impossible to kill for even the most challenged gardener. In cool climates it can come inside during the winter. Aloe is great for keeping skin healthy and to treat burns. It will also come in handy after all that sun exposure in the garden.

Lavender – Lavender is an herb you can grow that can be infused in oil to soothe the skin. Fill a glass jar 1/2 to 2/3 way with fresh or dried Lavender. Pour in your favorite oil such as sweet almond or fractionated coconut oil. Let it sit in a sealed container for 4 to 6 weeks.

Rosehip – Single flowering rose varieties such as rugosa rose form large rosehip. They are packed with amazing anti-oxidants that help the skin bounce back from damage. This plant flowers over and over again all season long.

Elderflower – While growing elderberries be sure to grab some of the elderflowers for use in skin care products. Elderflower is often used in over the counter beauty products because of its skin restoring qualities.

Red clover – Red clover is popular for its many skin benefits including a natural way to soothe eczema. The powerful antioxidants help keep skin healthy and radiant.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
