Last year we had quite a few flowers pop up that we had not planted in the three years that we had lived in our house. We called them our volunteer flowers. The flowers that showed up included lupines, a rose, a daisy, a snap dragon, and poppies. Of all of our volunteers the poppies were my favorite. They made a home in the grass under an apple tree. I was hoping to harvest seeds, so my son mowed around the poppies all summer long. In the fall I collected their seeds and planted them around the tree and hoped they would grow. Last week I had to trim the apple tree because there was so much fruit the branches were dragging the ground. While cleaning up twigs and apples from under the tree I discovered poppies! Most of which are growing around the tree, but the one pictured above was growing in the grass.

LOL! I have a list of things to do and learn once my garden is harvested. It seems like I wait all winter for spring, so that I can garden. And then in late July or early August I start dreaming of snow, so I can stop and take care of all of the things I am neglecting while I garden.

Alea, nice job on the italics. People are still sending me linking tips. Guess mine aren't "stylish" enough yet. Maybe after my garden is harvested, I'll sit down and really learn how to use a computer.

Can you blow some of those seeds to my yard, please?! We've got plenty of mystery/volunteer veggies, but no flowers anywhere!

I love the term rogue flowers! We actually had a debate about what to call our volunteers. (Ferral flowers received a unanimous no vote). I think this topic will need to be revisited at our next family meeting! 🙂

Sometimes I think I love those rogue flowers better than the ones I carefully select. Although my garden is way behind yours, my poppies have started blooming this week too! I planted mine, however. (3/$1 seed packets at the dollar store.)
