3 Ways to Naturally Remove Stains, including ways to naturally remove stains from clothes, carpets, and sinks using inexpensive, natural ingredients.

Stains are a natural part of any household with children, pets, or forgetful spouses. Whether it’s on clothes, the carpet, or the brand new couch, it may be difficult to find a solution that is not only effective, but safe. With all the the chemicals in many cleaning products and stain removal products, it’s hard to know what is safe to use and what is safe for the environment and your family.

There are several different options you have when it comes to removing stains naturally. Many products are found in your cabinets and kitchen, and are perfectly safe to use around pets, children, and yourself. Here are 3 ways to naturally remove stains.

3 Ways to Naturally Remove Stains

Lemons

Lemons are a fantastic stain remover, especially on clothes. For many stains on clothing, you may find that a solution of lemon water or even scrubbing a lemon on a spot will help make it fade. Half a lemon is also perfect to get rid of soap scum and ring stains in a sink. Be careful what you use lemon on, as it can also have a bleaching effect on some colors and fabrics.

Lemons also work well on some grease stains on clothing too, as long as they are not “washed in” already.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda

One of the recipes you’ll find over and over again for carpet stains is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and soap. It is a great product to get rid of dirt and pet stains on carpets. Are you looking to get rid of stubborn soft drink or juice stains? Spray the area with hydrogen peroxide, place a towel over it, and iron over the towel. You will soon see the stain lift onto the towel. (Make sure the towel is a rag you don’t mind staining for this purpose).

If you have a stubborn stain in a lighter area, try some hydrogen peroxide and some baking soda. Add it slowly to avoid making it too foamy.

Vinegar

Vinegar is great for stain removal for clothes and other household items. Spray the mixture on stains and toss it into the laundry and watch the stain disappear. You can also safely use a mixture of vinegar and water on most upholstery, scrub, and help get rid of the stain. Some kinds of carpet stains also do well with vinegar. Plain vinegar works well on stains that come from pets, but be careful when using it for things like carpet as it can also make them keep using that spot as well.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
