If you have never been to a consignment shop you are in for a real treat, especially if you love designer duds. Consignment shops are not the same as thrift stores, although the pieces are often and usually pre-worn. Clothing is high quality and clean as well as hand-picked. Consignment shops often have far stricter standards than other stores that take used goods, so you can be sure to find a real deal there. Here are 5 Reasons to Shop Consignment Stores Now.

You can find name brands for far less than the mall. If you like the clothing brands at the mall, but are not trying to spend that much, consignment shops are definitely the way to go. Most shops only accept higher end or brand name pieces that are in almost new condition.

You can get credit for your own stuff and shop for free. You can save even more money on brand name clothes by bringing in your own gently used brand name items and getting store credit. Be aware that most consignment shops have specific times that they take items and some even require you make an appointment. Some consignment shops give you credit right away and others only pay you in the form of store credit or cash when your item sells.

There are specialty shops that are consignment. I bought my wedding dress at such a shop. You can find consignment shops that sell bridal wear and prom dresses as well as ones that only sell children’s clothing, sportswear, high end designer, or plus size women’s wear. Some consignment shops only sell furniture!

It’s like thrift shopping, only better. Thrift shopping is fun because you might get lucky and find a real treasure. In consignment shops, you get to pay less for used and not have to do too much digging to find items that are more what you are looking for.

It’s a good way to buy in-style clothes– Most consignment shops I have been to have specific standards of how old the clothing can be. For many, that means the clothing has to still be in style or current or even no more than 6 months old. You can find all those impulse buys someone else did that they paid full price for at a way lower price!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
