Revamp Old Clothes. If your daughter hasn’t grown a lot since last year, but wants new clothes why not think about revamping them into something new. Create fun scarves out of old t-shirts. Add appliqués and patches to shirts, jackets, and jeans to make them look new and different. Dye old shirts and dresses with fun new seasonal colors to make a whole new look without the cost.

Buy Used Books. If you have to pay out of pocket for books for your child or your own classes, check into the many used book sites and stores. Campus Book Rentals and Amazon both have great deals on gently used books that can save you thousands of dollars.

Buy Gently Used Clothing.  Sites like ThredUp have tons of brand name kids clothing that is in excellent condition at great low prices.  If your child wants the brand name on their clothing this year – shop online or in thrift shops for like new items.

Buy In Bulk. While the back to school sales on school supplies have great deals, you may indeed find better deals at your local warehouse store on items like copy paper, sharpies, pencils, notebook paper and binders.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
