7 Non-Candy Halloween Treat Alternatives - Trying to avoid sugar? Here are 7 non-candy alternatives that are perfect for trick or treaters, classroom parties, or just to give your own kids.

Halloween time is traditionally a time of all things sweet and sugary. But what if you are trying to avoid those things? You can still have some hauntingly good fun without the use of edible and sugar-filled treats. Take a look below at 7 non-candy alternatives that we came up with for you to try. These are perfect for trick or treaters, classroom parties, or just to give your own kids. Check them out!

7 Non-Candy Halloween Treat Alternatives

1. Glow sticks.
Sold at the dollar store in packs of six, glow sticks are the perfect Halloween treat. They can be used to light the child up when trick or treating as well. Choose from bracelets, necklaces, even wands.

2. Plastic creepy crawlers.
Dollar stores sell large bags of plastic spiders and other bugs for just $1. They even sell glow in the dark ones. Kids love these bugs, and they can be added to sensory boxes as well.

3. Gel Pens/Markers
You can find colorful gel pens and markers at your local dollar store, perfect for children to write to The Great Pumpkin with! Kids love to doodle, and these pens and markers will let them do exactly that.

4. Stickers.
Who doesn’t love some colorful stickers? Grab a bulk package and pass them out to your little witches and goblins. Dollar stores sell packages of several hundred stickers for, you guessed it, just $1!

5. Trading cards.
Kids still love swapping trading cards. There are so many themes to choose from, so grab a few and give them a go! They will love swapping them as much as they love swapping candy.

6. Wacky pencils and erasers.
Grab a package of Halloween themed pencils and erasers at your local dollar store and you have a frugal treat kids will love. You can usually get 12 erasers for $1 and 2 dozen pencils for the same. For $3, you can make enough treats for 24 kids.

7.Food coupons.
Buy a sheet of food coupons from your local McDonald’s or Wendy’s to pass out. These include healthy options such as apple slices and milk coupons as well. These are perfect for treating the kids with healthier options or just options they can use later when the candy craze has died down.

This year, why not opt for these non candy alternatives? They are a great way to stay in the spirit of the season, without worrying about all of the sugar and food allergies. Give them a try!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
