7 Ways to Cool Your House Without Turning on the Air Conditioner- Instead of cranking up your AC unit, try these frugal ways to cool your home this summer.

As the warm weather kicks in we all try to put off turning on our air conditioners. Why spend the money when the air is so nice and we have been waiting so long for the warm weather? It can be hard to do when you are struggling to stay cool. Here are 7 Ways to Cool Your House Without Turning on the Air Conditioner that you can try as the warmer temperatures start to rise.

7 Ways to Cool Your House Without Turning on the Air Conditioner

1. Drink plenty of water. The best way to keep your body cool is to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. If you aren’t properly hydrated your body has to work harder to regulate and that means you get warmer than if you were properly hydrated.

2. Ditch the oven. Don’t use your oven to cook! It’s great in the winter because it helps heat the house but it doesn’t help one bit when trying to keep your house cool. Use the Crock Pot more and take it a step further and use the Crock Pot outside. Cook out on the grill and enjoy the nice weather!

3. Take off your shoes. Take off your shoes and socks and let your feet breathe. This will help keep you cool as well. Same goes for taking off any hats.

4. Step away from the computer and turn it off. The longer a computer is on the warmer it gets and the more warm air it produces. If you are using a laptop you are getting a brunt of that warm air and it’s raising your body temperature! Try to limit the amount of time on the computer and when it isn’t in use turn it all the way off to let it cool down.

5. Wear the right clothes. This should go without saying but let’s mention in just in case. Wear short sleeve, light clothes, breathable fabrics, and single layers.

6. Skip the hot shower. I’m not saying take an ice cold shower though it would help, I’m saying just take a warm shower. The hotter of a shower you take the more it raises your core body temperature and the hotter your house will feel.

7. Get a fan and stay put. Get an oscillating fan and let it help circulate the air. Then sit down and relax. The more you move the more your core body temperature rises and the hotter it will feel. Let the fans do their job and feel the cool air. It’s the perfect excuse- you get to be lazy to save money!

When it starts to get cool in the evening open your windows perferably with a fan in front of the window and blow the cool air in early in the morning before it starts to heat up close your windows and pull the blinds and curtains shut this will help keep you and your house cooler.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
