Does your front porch need to be freshened up for spring? Try these 7 Ways to Get Your Porch Ready For Spring and get a jump start on your spring cleaning.

After all the chill and bluster of winter, I am ready for a fresh start, for me this usually means a front porch makeover. I like to clean, freshen up, and decorate the front porch to welcome in Spring before I even begin Spring cleaning indoors.

7 Ways to Get Your Porch for Spring

1. Remove everything from the porch–  Completely empty off the porch.  Start by using a broom to “dust” dirt and cobwebs off the roof if you have a roof, as well as the corners. Sweep the floor, then hose it all down (or use a pressure washer if you have one) to clean it really well.

2. Remove screens and wash windows– If your porch has windows be sure to give them a good cleaning as well. This will give you more sunlight inside and freshen up the look.

2.Scrub all your furniture– Hose it down, spray with bleach or other cleaner and give it a good scrubbing. Take cushions out of storage if they were in it, or just remove from furniture and wash on gentle cycle to freshen them up. Check furniture for signs of wear, make repairs as needed.

4. Add something new– A pretty pot with bulbs planted in it, pillows for the porch swing, a new mat for the front door, or a spring themed statuette. It doesn’t have to be new, just new to you. Scour thrift stores and garage sales for items that could use a fresh coat of paint and a bit of TLC to liven up your porch.

5.Clean out flower beds around porch– Before anyone steps foot on the porch they see the flower beds/shrubbery around it. Rake it out, pull out dead plants, plant a few new ones and tidy it up in general.

6. Swap out plants- Once all chance of frost is gone change your winter plants and flowers on the porch or patio for fresh and bright springtime plants. Choose accordingly, if your porch is covered of course you will want shade loving plants. If you have an open porch sun loving or partial shade will do well.

7. Add a spring wreath to the front door–  Or any another welcoming hanging decoration. Your front door as well as your porch sets the tone for guests.  Pick one up ready made or create your own.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
