8 Eco-Friendly Tips That Will Save You Money

Almost every single American has heard the term “going green” at one point or another and an unfortunately large number of them ignore it. Some folks have a very difficult time thinking beyond their own generation. There is one way we can get and keep their attention on saving the planet; going green can put cash in their pockets. That is one thing almost everyone will pay attention to. Here are some easy, money-making ideas to share with those that think going green is not worth the time:

Carpooling

You can always find someone that wants to carpool if you actually ask around. It is amazing how so few people actually inquire about this logical money-saving idea. If you are going somewhere every single day that someone else is going too, why not share rides? It really is easy to do and will absolutely save you money.

Recycling and Reusing

It is called many things, but making sure that we are recycling keeps the world moving properly. Recycling means that we are saving natural resources. That means that things will cost less that use those resources. You can also make some cash turning in those aluminum cans and various other metals that are found around the home. Why not make some cash?

Water Conservation

Water and sewer bills are at an all-time high and the summer brings them up even higher. With the heat rising, take the time to save your water with some basic changes. Turn off the water when you are brushing your teeth, shaving or rinsing off dishes. Stop using your hose to water your yard and plants and instead set up a rainwater catch. Fix all the leaks in your faucets and drips in your plumbing and stay on top of them. Wash full loads of laundry instead of several tiny loads. Water conservation is an easy way to see money saved in real time.

Second Hand Clothes

Some people have a “thing” about wearing clothes that once belonged to someone else. The truth is, we all wore fig leaves at one time. Get over it and learn to love thrift stores and the like. A whole new world will open to you and your wallet will feel the excitement!

Composting

Composting is all about going green, but how is it saving money? Easy…go out and try to buy yourself a bag of fertilizer. Now imagine never having to do that again and your fruits, veggies and flowers growing to epic proportions in the process. Your welcome.

Air Dry Your Clothes on Occasion

Quick…try to guess the appliance in your home other than the refrigerator that takes the most energy to run. If you said your dryer, then you are absolutely correct. Skip that on a beautiful day and hang those clothes out to dry.

Pay Attention to Those Lights

Although many people don’t really think about it, cutting out lights is one of the very easiest things we can do to make a real difference. If you are not in a room, why light it up? Save money on your energy bill while conserving resources all at the same time.

Buy From Your Local Farmers

Find a local farmer near you that grows his or her own produce in an organic, green way, and then visit them regularly. If you do, you will get the absolute best prices and food that ever crossed your table. Nothing tastes better than fresh squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and the like on a regular basis. You can be sure you won’t pay that supermarket price either.

These are only a few quick ideas to help you turn the anti-green living establishment around. Show them the money you save and how easy it is and they will almost certainly follow suit. Everybody loves saving cash!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
