Attic Find Featured on Thrifty Threads

Earlier this year, I shared how we went shopping in the attic for my youngest son’s birthday. I also went shopping in the attic when I wanted to redecorate. I found some pictures that had been damaged in a move and then forgotten in the attic. I brought them down, repaired them and they are now gracing my dining room walls. My daughter decided to try her hand at shopping in the attic and went through a box of my old clothes and was excited to find several items for her wardrobe. Angela Barton has featured one of my daughter’s attic finds on her latest installment of  Thrifty Threads along with a couple of her thrift store discoveries.

Angela participated in The Compact last year which means she went the entire year of 2009 without purchasing any new items (with a very few exceptions). This year she is doing the  “Compact-Lite” and loosening the rules just a bit to make this a permanent lifestyle change. Angela has shared many insightful and thought provoking posts on the non-consumer lifestyle, including her latest “How Buying Less Stuff Can be Empowering”.

While you are visiting her site, be sure to check out Angela’s Meatless Mondays feature. It  is a wonderful resource whether you are a vegetarian or just trying to cut back on your meat consumption for economic or environmental reasons.

Angela’s Thrifty Threads  posts feature outfits that fulfill the the spirit of the compact and as such are “used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, a yard sale, craigslist, eBay, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find used clothing”. If you have found a second hand bargain that you would like to submit for a future Thrifty Threads installment, send an email to Angela.

Thank you all for your sweet comments.

@Vickie, I plan to do a few posts on The Compact before the year is out. I will be doing one on Christmas ideas this week – I hope! 🙂

Alea – your daughter is beautiful!! I don't think my girls would wear anything from my past – ever, except maybe as a Halloween costume!

I loved your daughters comment 'it's not part of her zombie survival plan" hahaha! Thanks for posting the links. I read some really clever ideas that inspire me to do a little better at acquiring 'less stuff'! Keep up the good work.

I just think it is awesome that you guys can do that. Your daughter should be an inspiration to many kids these days who are all about material things. I would do more thrift store shopping but have the hardest time finding things in my size. Heck I have a hard time in a store too lol. I am so in love with those shoes though. Gorgeous.

    Alea,
Your daughter is beautiful and her outfit is so nice looking. It's amazing what you can find in the attic! I'm really interested in this compact -could you explain what you do for Christmas? Sounds like a great thing to do and something our family would be interested in!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
