How to avoid wedding disasters

It’s every bride’s worst nightmare; you think things are all set and suddenly something goes wrong and now you feel like all your hard work is for nothing. You are screaming inside, “My big day is going to be ruined!”

While there are many things that can go wrong on your wedding day, here are some ways to avoid the biggest wedding disasters so you can get back to your dream wedding.

How to Avoid Wedding Disasters

The biggest disaster most people worry about is the weather. This is probably even more of a worry for you if any part of your big day is outdoors. The best way to avoid this is to have a “Plan B”. Rent a space you can hold it if it or see if any of your relatives have large gazebo style tents you can use. Also, watch the weather at least 10 days in advance to know ahead of time if you can expect it to be a problem.

Your entertainment or DJ fails to show up. It can happen, but it is unlikely. In this case, make a file on your computer of a couple hours’ worth of songs and save them to a zip drive to take with you in your laptop. Have a way to hook your laptop up to some speakers and you are back in business if this happens.

Another worry is; what if you are sick on your wedding day? This can be almost avoidable, but you can help bulk up your immune system in the weeks and months leading to your wedding day and be extra careful to wash hands diligently to avoid it if possible.

You worry you will forget something. This is easily solved and avoided by making lists along the way. Even if it seems silly, make a list of items you need to take with you to the wedding site so you won’t forget something like your veil.

“Oh no! My dress is ruined!” Many brides worry their dresses will get spilled on, stained or even torn at their reception. One way you can avoid this issue is to buy a very nice formal dress (think ones made for prom- not overly expensive, but still very elegant) that matches your wedding colors and your husband’s tux or suit. You could even get a used wedding dress for less than $100 at a consignment shop.  This way, your dress is safe and you still get to look glamorous.

What if my guests don’t like my food? The easiest way to avoid this is to make sure you go with a caterer that allows you to sample exactly what will be served at the wedding and provide some options for people. This way, you know there will be something for mostly everyone and if the food does not taste as it did during the sampling, you will be able to possibly get a partial refund for disappointing service and not living up to contracted agreements.

Any other disaster such as double booking your venue, your photographer double booking himself or the flowers not being in yet: Keep tabs on everything. You don’t need to call daily, but make sure you are keeping in contact with the right people. Check in more frequently as the day gets close to makes sure everything goes off without a hitch on the day you get hitched!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
