How Am I Going to Clothe My Children on The Compact?

Have you wondered how I am going to clothe my children while committing to the The Compact this year? That question can be answered in large part by visiting Angela today at My Year Without Spending. She has once again featured one of my daughter’s thrift store finds on her latest installment of Thrifty Threads. Angela participated in The Compact last year which means she went the entire year of 2009 without purchasing any new items (with a very few exceptions). This year she is doing the  “Compact-Lite” and loosening the rules just a bit to make this a permanent lifestyle change. Her Thrifty Threads posts feature outfits that fulfill the the spirit of the compact and as such “are used or recycled, from the Goodwill, a thrift store, or a consignment shop”.

While you are there be sure to check out Angela’s Meatless Meals feature. It  is a wonderful resource whether you are trying to cut back on your meat consumption or searching for ideas to get your family through Lent.

If you have found a second hand bargain that you would like to submit for a future Thrifty Threads installment, send an email to Angela.

Thank Patricia again for me. It's one of my favorite Thrifty Threads ever, because of her story of the $20 challenge and her overall frugal nature. And also because she looks so pretty!

You've raised a very smart (and beautiful) girl.

What a nice profile of Patricia on Thrifty Threads! That is a beautiful dress and the shoes definitely look like the do the job or ballroom dancing. Where do I find the posts with her tango dress and comfortable pants? I'll try the "just keep scrolling" method, but if it's deep in the archives, please drop me a link!

I love the term you used " Compact Lite!".

That's me too this year after my Compact year last year.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
