Thank you to Aubrey Organics for sponsoring today’s discussion.

How to Prevent Sun Damage Naturally including tips for keeping away crow's feet, how to protect your skin from the sun and natural sun damage prevention.

I am in my 30’s now and when I look in the mirror, I see something I am not really liking; the early signs of aging. This is most likely due to the fact that I spent a lot of time in the sun as a kid and teen and admittedly, have not taken the best care of my skin and protected it from the damage of the sun. There are many ways to protect your skin from the sun, but some contain questionable ingredients and since I like to live as natural as possible, this can present a challenge.

If you are looking for some ways to stop sun damage in it’s tracks, here are some tips on how to prevent sun damage naturally.

How to Prevent Sun Damage Naturally

Eat the right foods. Did you know that it is suggested that green tea can actually prevent sun damage? You can slow up your skin’s natural sun defenses by eating enough vitamin D. Foods rich in Vitamin D include milk, tuna, cheese and even egg yolks.

Avoid using citrus essential oil directly on skin. Citrus essential oils can not only irritate your skin, but they can make it more susceptible to sun damage and even burns. If you want to use orange or other citrus essential oils on your skin, make sure to use a carrier oil and wait at least 1 hour before going into the sun.

Use a natural age-defying therapy in your skin care regimen. It is important to use products that can help you prevent wrinkles and sun damage that contain natural ingredients. I suggest using Aubrey Organic’s Age-Defying Therapy Moisturizer with Sea Buckthorn. It contains antioxidants and can defend against the pollution in the air that also leads to aging. This is also perfect for placing in your skin to soothe sun-kissed skin and it works to prevent damage even after you come in from a day in the sun. I love the way it feels on my skin (like silk) and how easily it absorbs. I also love that it is organic, vegan, grain-free and not tested on animals. This makes it ideal for practically anyone.

Cover-up and plan your time in the sun. Most people want to be in the least amount of clothes as possible when spending a lot of time in the sun,. but if you are trying to prevent sun damage, it is actually better to cover up. This means wearing light, long-sleeved clothing as well as hats. Plan your time in the sun during the least damaging time of the day such as between 10 am and 4 pm.

Use Mineral-Based sunscreen. It should contain zinc-oxide, contain broad-spectrum sun protection and also be chemical-free and as natural as possible.

Look for natural SPF in moisturizers. One of the easiest ways to make sure you are wearing SPF every day is to purchase products that contain it that you will be using every day such as in your facial moisturizer. Aubrey Organics has an SPF 15 defense Moisturizer just for that.

Wear sunglasses. While this may not seem like a sun damage preventative when talking about your skin, it is. Think about it; when you are not wearing sunglasses, you will naturally squint. This leads to “crow’s feet” and can also lead to deep wrinkles on your forehead. On top of that, it can also lead to damage in your vision!

Make sure to stay hydrated. Healthy skin is hydrated skin! It helps your skin retain it’s youthful appearance.

If you are trying to prevent sun damage naturally like I am, make sure you use the code PL25 to get 25% off the already great price of $22.50 on the Aubrey Organics Age-Defying Therapy Moisturizer with Sea Buckthorn!

You can also enter to win a bottle of the 1.7oz Aubrey Organics Age-Defying Therapy Moisturizer with Sea Buckthorn! There will be two winners! Giveaway ends on April 18, 2015.

I am really fair so I have to take very precaution. My only issue with covering up with a hat or clothing is that I also overheat really easily.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
